THIS IS OUR 30th BIRTHDAY YEAR
In October this year, it will be 30 years since Tools For Self Reliance first came to Crickhowell. In 1996 – half way along our timeline, we became TFSR Cymru and moved into our present workshop, and since then we have never looked back.
We are planning a whole programme of events and activities to mark the occasion; the first will be a Spring Open Day at the workshop with special guests..MWANZA EXHIBITION –  Appreciation for TFSR Cymru

“CLASSIC TOOLS” NEW RANGE LAUNCHED

We have started marketing some of our special tools under the “CLASSIC TOOLS” label. These could be any quality tool that has a well-known maker’s name on it such as Nash, Gilpin or Whitehouse, etc. We sold a Brades felling axe recently for £60 so we are confident the new label will help us raise lots of money.

The tools could be for many uses as you will see in the photo – there is an ice pick by Stubai, a fireman’s axe by Whitehouse, plus a lovely 3lb Gilpin axe. All these companies were independent and have long histories. They have slowly been taken over by Spear & Jackson since the1950s . Have a look at their family tree – we also have it on our workshop wall. The display board will be regularly changing and we hope to be featuring some of the tools on our web site.

We sell axes, billhooks and drawknives here in Wales as the Tanzanian blacksmiths can make them – well maybe not the ice axe. Our job is to help the tool-makers, not to undermine their work.

OUR 400th KIT FOR TANZANIA  is now complete and ready to load into the next container as soon as we have it. It is for Kikundi Cha Wanawake Uamsho, a tailors group in Manyoni in Singida Region.

The group consists of 5 women and 1 man, and between them they have 38 dependents. We are sending them 2 treadle sewing machines, 2 straight stitch electric machines a zig zag and an embroidery. Most of their work is making school uniforms, they will use the embroidery machine to add decoration to some of their finished products. Trying to get a photo for next time to show you the group

PLENTY OF SEED SWAPS COMING SOON  where you can also buy our lovingly refurbished tools. Mostly in Wales but we do creep over the border occasionally see our web site for dates and places
