Another post about #ourownstories, #ktss, and #kttss.

We recently were very fortunate to successfully apply for a grant from the ‘Kitchen Table Charities’ (www.kitchentablecharities.org) which we must spend in Tanzania. It is being distributed to two causes. First, we will arrange for 4m TSH (around £1200) to be spent at the primary care centre run by Florah Magabe. Her Nursery caters for single mothers and others in extremely disadvantaged situations, helping the parents to overcome their challenging circumstances by training them in a trade which will make them self reliant.

This money will be spent to train tailors at the Mwanza Sewing Training Centre and to acquire more sewing machines for the mothers supported by her facility. The rest of the grant (12m TSH) will be delivered to St.Francis Pre/Primary School operated by Fr. Benedict Magabe, who will use the funds to buy supplies, tools and tradesmen to build playground equipment for the children at both schools. Currently neither has any kind of playground facilities.

In the interim, Florah has been able to use the training we arranged at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology, Mwanza to make shoes. The following is a letter she sent us.

Greetings from Mwanza.

Me and my colleagues we have started Shoes Making programs this week on 17th May 2021 the program is for 8 weeks. It is very expensive getting shoe making teachers but at last I will be teacher soon?…. Thanks for recommending us to DIT for this program of shoes making and leatherwork …

I took the initiative of studying myself because getting the teacher to teach shoe making it’s very expensive and are few. So I have started this basic course which will be helping me and my colleagues obtain the basic knowledge and later on DIT will offer us another special program for making Soccer Balls and Basketball, belts and wallets and we are thankful God grant us the opportunities so we can be unique from other expertise.

We are three students amongst 30.
We will need shoes making tools more ???? since we will be experts and the teachers so will let you know soon as possible which tools we will need…

Here are few pictures we took at DIT on the first week other more are coming.

Thanks again
