It’s appropriately International Women’s day today ( March 8, 2021) as this post is about Florah Magabe. She is an amazing woman who is working to reduce poverty and improve lives of women in Tanzania. A philanthropist, political activist and popular speaker for women’s rights and empowerment. She is currently the private secretary to the MP for Nyamagana State – Stanslaus Mabula.  A woman of substance and influence, indeed.

Today in Tanzania  young women struggle with poverty, teenage pregnancy and lack of education due mostly to the conservative attitudes of the population. Ms. Magabe has taken this head on, not only speaking to educate the public but through real action against the injustices she sees. Her school, The St. Francis  primary, takes in young women who are paupers, homeless or restricted from school due to pregnancy. The school day care and classes look after the children as the mothers work or take further education, developing skills to support themselves.

Last year alone this school helped 26 single mothers, 32 orphans, 20 vulnerable women and a total of 84 children.

Our involvement has been very limited so far but we hope to continue working with her in the fight to support women throughout the Lake Zone.
